If you’ve never had a life coach before, you may have a lot of questions. But even if you have worked with a coach, our structure and sessions and experience are not all the same which can change the answer to some of the questions.


What you’ll find below are the answers I give out of my own experience. Many people are curious about how coaching might improve their own life so here is a list of common responses to how people have been helped by working with a life coach:

How Long Have You Been a Life Coach?

I have been coaching people on their journey of self-realization, helping people navigate towards their goals for much of my adult life. In 2022 I finally made it official by becoming a Certified Professional Life Coach. Though I was coaching long before my certification, I felt like it was the next step for me as I put myself out into the public realm and created a business around the things that I love to do the most!

What Is Life Coaching Anyway? 

Think of a fitness or sports coach. We can all generally imagine what that looks like because they have been around for a long time. And what do they do? They help their clients or team members focus on the goal, whether that be losing weight, getting stronger, or winning a game. During the training, the coach is showing the person how to position their body so they don’t injure it during training, they are giving encouragement, and they are helping keep them on track. Life coaching is much the same, only the goals are different and the tools and resources used to achieve those goals are too.


Why Would Anyone Need A Life Coach? 

You’d be surprised by the number of people that seem to have their ducks in a row who actually have frequent sessions with a life coach. Having a coach doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. Many coaches have coaches too!


All of us need an outside perspective from time to time. We live with ourselves every second of every day and that fact can make certain patterns and habits blend into the background where we can’t see them. Some people like to have a coach for accountability. Others need help with goal setting, identifying hurdles, and actions to take to get to their goals. Many people are looking for help on their path of self-realization, finding purpose and meaning.


Whatever you are looking to gain in having a life coach, the tools, strategies, resources, and knowledge coaches have can help you get to where you want to go faster than you could on your own. 


What Type Of Coach Are You?

I help my clients with a very wide variety of things that are going on in their life, but my specialty is working with those who really want to dig into self-realization, personal growth, healing and understanding their purpose. My certification is "Professional Life Coach" with extended training in life purpose and self-realization.


How Will I Know If You Are The Right Coach For Me?

Honestly, you probably won’t know that until we have a handful of sessions. We are both getting to know each other at the same time that I am helping you find answers and work towards your goals. The initial time of learning how each other talks and shares can take a bit of time. The reality is, that not every coach is meant for every person and that is okay. No hard feelings if you feel I am not the right fit for you on your journey.


How Long Is A Coaching Session?

It depends on the coach and the client. My sessions are usually 60 minutes long. Many other coaches have sessions as short as 30 minutes and as long as 2 or more hours.


What Happens During A Coaching Session?

My style of coaching looks much like a conversation between two people who might be navigating through some tricky, interesting, or enjoyable stuff. Sometimes there is laughter because life is amusing! Sometimes there are tears because sorting through hard issues can be difficult as well as relieving. I do a lot of listening and ask a lot of questions to help you self-reflect. I like to be spontaneous and to “go with the flow”, letting the client guide much of the process while using my intuition to point things out that the client may not see. You may see me taking notes as well.


What Will I Have To Do?

When working with a life coach, it’s essential for you to be committed to the process, stick to plans that you have made, and be completely invested in yourself. You will need to be open-minded and honest with yourself and with me. You will need to take full responsibility for your actions or lack of them. The process of unraveling who you are and what you want is work...BUT, extremely rewarding! 

How Long Will I Need A Coach?

This is highly dependent on the involvement of the client in their own life, their desire to see things through, and their dedication to the process. But many things outside of a client’s control can affect timing and outcomes as well. Birth and death of loved ones, financial struggles, unhealed trauma, other people’s choices, illness, and everyday life shift our resources and ability to process. 

Some people only use coaching sessions sporadically when they need clarity on specific issues. Others see a coach for years on regular basis, wanting to have more accountability through the cycles of life.


Is Life Coaching The Same Thing As Therapy?

Coaching is not the same thing as therapy. A therapist is specially trained to handle trauma, psychological issues, and mental illness. They are also legally able to prescribe medication to those who need it. 

That being said, coaches have helped countless people in many areas of life in conjunction with or without therapy.


Where Does Your Coaching Take Place?

Right now, I am doing in-person coaching at my place of business, in public spaces such as a coffee shop or park (weather permitting), or at your home. Whatever works for both of us. Many coaches also offer online video conferencing or telephone. I am currently looking into these types of sessions. 


Is My Information Private?

YES. I do not share your information with anyone.


What Are Your Ethical Standards?

My practice is built on inclusivity, non-judgment, honesty, and a safe place for everyone to feel free to be themselves.
